“Would you like” is the answer when someone proposes a seemingly impossible wish or an outrageous idea. And how interesting is it if it turns out that her wish or idea has actually come true? The interesting question then is: how did he or she do that? And how ironic, the answer to that is simple; because that person has had the courage to do it.
As humans, we go through a lot. However, it is not the event itself that determines our experience, it is the way we deal with it. In other words, how do we imagine it? The meaning you give to it determines your personal experience. Very often we are not aware of how we do this, because our behavior is mainly unconsciously controlled. Fortunately, we as humans can become aware of many things and then decide for ourselves how we will experience it differently for ourselves.
There is only one correct answer to the question: who determines your quality of life? To really know and feel inside that you are the one who determines how you deal with your life. The meaning you give to it determines your personal experience. For example, when you label an event as negative, it also becomes a negative experience. For example, lifting your groceries. You can think, ‘What a heavy message’. Or you just lift the groceries. Very often we are not aware of how we do this, because our behavior is mainly unconsciously controlled. Fortunately, we as humans can become aware of many things and then decide for ourselves how we will experience it differently for ourselves.
Create awareness
Human nature can be characterized by two important qualities: reason and emotion. Reason is the ability to think logically. It is an ability that helps us structure causes and consequences of problems and behavior. According to reason, if A happens, then B will happen. By providing all kinds of logical rationality, reason helps us draw logical, valid conclusions. This is very useful and often even indispensable.
Emotion is an ability that has to do with feelings. It is central to our actions, because it is through emotion that people do things. We move, act and react to circumstances only when our emotions are involved. Love, desire, anger and disappointment are some of the forces that drive action.
Although everyone has both mind and emotion, some people have a more developed emotional side, while other people are more rational.
It is clear that you will emphasize reason or emotion depending on the situation you are in. When faced with an important decision where you have many options, you may prefer to use your rational side, while during a brainstorming session you may put more emphasis on your emotional side.
The goal is not to put yourself in one of the categories of rationally or emotionally driven people, but rather to clarify what kind of behavior or what skills stem from what quality. If you learn to recognize such behaviors and skills, you can become more aware of the two basic qualities. You will be able to see under what circumstances you rely on your mind and under which circumstances you rely on your emotions.
Tomorrow you can start making a dream agenda, convert your goals into an actionable plan. And then we’ll give you 5 ways to be brave specific to the type of person you are.
